cannon eos d400 or nikon d40x?

i am new to buying these types of camaras but dont want to buy he wrong one price not a issue just which ones the best ?

Between these two... it's tough. With the Canon, you can autofocus with most of the Canon lens lineup, while the D40x requires AF-S or HSM lenses to autofocus. However, I find the ergonomics of the D40x to be superior.



If you are just getting a basic lens, then the D40x is the better choice in my opinion. If you're planning on getting the camera and a whole stable of lenses *right now*, then I would recommend the Canon.



If the plan is to get a body and a basic lens, then later begin adding to the lens collection, I would pick the Nikon D40x for ergonomic reasons. Note that Nikon and Sigma have been adding motorized AF lenses to their lineups this past year and will continue to do so, so that more and more motorized AF lenses will be coming out.

It's a bit of a toss-up. Nikkor lenses are the best on the planet, but Canon really jumped into digital picture technology about a decade ago, so now the other companies are scrambling to catch up. Can't speak for digital SLRs, but in standard film SLRs I've had very good luck with Nikon. They're very reliable and take a lot of abuse. So I would say Nikon, assuming the quality of their digital SLRs is the same as their standard film SLRs.
