Question:
What is a good zoom lens for the Nikon D5000?

I just purchased a Nikon D5000 and it came with the standard DX 18-55mm lens. I am not happy with the lack of zoom on this lens. I want to use it at sporting events and take on vacation to the beach and not have pictures that look like I was a mile away. If anyone has any advice on a lens that BB would sell that has a good zoom ratio for less then $250 would be appreciated!

THANKS EVERYONE!

The 55-250mm lens is a good fit with your existing lens but if you want one lens that does it all or close to it then check out a Tamron 18-200mm lens made for Nikon at the cost of about $230 after some rebate. See the link below, it has over 50 customer reviews on the B&H Photo website.

Hope this helps.

Im not sure why everyone is saying 55-250mm. It is a 55-200mm.

I would definitely recommend these lens as because the are in you price range. these lens are actually made to compliment the 18-55. Infact they are usually sold together as a package.

Somebody else recommended the 18-200mm. Obviously these are good lens but will be WAY out of your price range and wont be as sharp as the 55-200 due its massive range.

The Best lens you can get for that price is no doubt the Nikon 55-200, They produce very shap, clear images with good contrast and saturated colors. You won't beat them for the price

I'd recommend an 18-200. The reason is it not only replaces your 18-55 but it has a pretty good reach.

I own a Canon Rebel XS and I use an 18-200 and rarely remove it from the camera. This saves me the risk of dust on my sensor and the time and hassle of constant lens changes.

I would suggest the 55-200mm - it compliments your 18-55mm and fits under your budget.

If you're planning on purchasing online, I would suggest buying from this site, which is selling the lens for $225 right now:
