so my boyfriend's sister is getting into photography and for her birthday i wanted to get her a flash for her sony alpha230. she normally does ourdoor/sunset portraits and was curious which flash should i get her.

i've been looking on amazon but i have no idea which one would be good for her.

I would consider Sony HVLF20AM TTL Digital Flash for Sony Alpha Digital SLR Cameras

Maximum range twice that of the built-in flash units on a230, a330 and a380 DSLRs

Bounce flash enables shadowless indirect lighting

Built -in diffuser for wide and telephoto shooting

TTL flash exposure automatically controlled by Alpha DSLRs

Easy intuitive operation; ultra-compact design folds flat when not in use

any flash made for sony dSLRs will work. It just depends on what else she wants it for (if she also likes indoor portraits, she may want one that has a bounce or swivel head option). even better if you can vary the flash output.

Although she may also be able to use the built-in pop-up flash already on her camera. At least I have.

HVL-F42AM will do fine.

The best is the HVL-F58AM, I have it. But she doesn't need the best.
