Question:
What are Ricoh cameras like?

Looking to buy a new compact camera but not sure which to buy. I have a budget of around 150 pounds, I'd like a decent zoom and a good quality sensor and lens with great build quality.

I've looked at some brands, not a fan of the Nikons (sure they do awesome DSLR's) but their compact just don't seem to be that great. Sony and panasonic seems pretty decent, but a friend of mine recommended this model- a Ricoh R10.

I've read a few reviews or the Ricoh R10 online and they seem pretty mixed. Build quality seems good and for it's size it has an awesome zoom. BUT IS IT ANY GOOD?

I love it when people think for themselves and consider brands others would ridicule. Your friend made a very good recommendation. An excerpt from the R10 review from my favorite camera review website

"Bottom Line - With excellent image quality and performance to match, the Ricoh R10 is a very capable and user friendly point and shoot. Featuring a 7.1x wide optical zoom lens, 10-Megapixel imaging sensor, 3" LCD screen and full auto shooting modes, it is extremely versatile and can be used by anyone in the family or office. With a MSRP of US$379, it is a little more expensive than a lot of the cameras in its class, but worth the money when you are looking for a top quality camera."

If youre not familiar with Ricoh theyve been making cameras and lenses for something like 70 years. They dont do extensive marketing so they arent well known and certainly not a popular brand but their quality is excellent.

And for all who reply afterwards I know the drill and I really dont care that pros dont use Ricoh. Its an excellent camera.

Ricoh R10 Review

Ricoh specialise in compact cameras, and the R10 is certainly that, great range on the lens with good IQ, like all compacts, watch the high noise, keep the ISO at 400 or ideally below for nice clean images.

I have had GR-1s & GR-Ds. It's a brand I keep coming back to, they plough their own furrow, satisfy their own niche, and generally do what they do very well.

I wouldn't touch a GR-X with a bargepole, but I would have an R10 above almost any other compact at any price.

Hi,

I love Ricoh R10. I have had several digital cameras over the past 7 years, and this one is the best yet as it has great feature like

The Ricoh R10 is a compact camera in that it is small, lightweight and pocketable. However, within its compact body the R10 houses a 10 million pixel CCD sensor and a great 7.1x optical zoom lens that offers a wide-angle view of 28mm and a telephoto end of 200mm (35mm film equivalents). The lens is also image stabilised and an additional electronic level ensures the steadiest of shots. A range of functions make it easy to shoot all kinds of subjects from landscapes to macro, while the design and layout of the R10 means you'll never get tired of using it. What's more, extensive in-camera editing means you can get the best out of your images without the need for a computer. 28-200 mm 7.1x optical zoom lens in a slim compact body. Ricoh's original Double Retracting Lens System has made it possible to fit a high magnification 7.1x optical wide-angle zoom lens in a slim compact body. This lens can realize your creative intentions in a wide range of scenes, from wide-angle emphasis on image breadth and depth to the telephoto's ability to pull the subject up close and prominent. To go beyond the 7.1x optical zoom (200 mm), use the auto resize zoom for powerful telephoto shooting up to 40.7x (equivalent of 1140 mm). Large, high-definition 3.0-inch HVGA LCD monitor for easy viewing The 3.0-inch 460,000-dot LCD monitor is convenient both when shooting and viewing images. Its high contrast and wide viewing angle make for easy viewing even when shooting outdoors.

Now this is a question I CAN Answer. We have had our Ricoh camera for 2yr and it is Fantastic. We took it to Cuba and when we saw the pictures it took we were amazed. The colours and depth were better than the Nikon my daughters boyfriend took with him. He is doing photography at university and has now been converted.
