Question:
Best brand for digital point-and-shoot?

I know everyone asks this, but I need the 2010 (almost 2011) version of your opinions. My main concern is image quality. I recently bought a Nikon and was not impressed (I guess they're better with SLR). The edges were fuzzy and the thing took forever to focus. I want a compact point-and-shoot, good for people pictures but also landscape and everyday scenery since I'm traveling abroad this spring. Ideally I don't want to spend more than $200 in case I lose it (although I'm willing to go $300), and I want at least 10 megapixels if not more. I want to know what you guys think about brands so that I have the option to shop around a bit, but specific camera recommendations are welcome too. Battery life is also important. I had a Casio Exilim for years and loved it despite negative opinions of the brand, so if I don't get suggestions I'll probably just go back. Bottom line, I want good pictures that I won't be embarrassed to share. Please help!

Out of the numerous camera models out there,

I can recommend a few fitting your requirements.

If you go up to the higher $200-s, you'd be able

to step up to a higher level of quality cameras.

The Sony HX5 is an automatic-oriented camera

with excellent features, wide lens and good zoom.

If you want a larger camera with a much larger zoom,

you can get Panasonic's FZ35. It's old but still strong.

For higher image quality in low light situations,

you can get the ultra compact Canon's SD4000.

If a large zoom in a compact camera is what you need,

get the Canon SX210. It's an excellent all around camera.

I would consider Canon PowerShot SX210IS 14.1 MP Digital Camera

* Powerful 14x optical zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer;

* Improved Dynamic mode for enhanced image stabilization

* 14.1-megapixel resolution for high-quality prints up to 16.5 x 23.4 inches

* 28mm wide-angle lens; 3.0-inch wide PureColor System LCD

* HD shooting capability at 720p with stereo sound plus HDMI output

* DIGIC 4 Image Processor with evolved Face Detection Technology; new scene modes

In no particular order, (regardless of the indisputable fact that Canons are my own decision), Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Kodak, Fuji, Pentax. they are going to each have P&S fashions in distinctive fees levels.
