I currently have a Canon Powershot SD 400 digital camera that I used for taking close-ups of coins for Ebay (anywhere from 1-5 inches away)....While vacationing in mexico last week, it suddenly broke and now im without a camera.

I don't want to spend a great amount of cash just for a camera, but needs something that can take close-up pics in great detail. Also, im not just using it for Ebay, looking to get a new camera with awsome features so I can edit some of my family pictures and whatnot. Im no camera whiz, but would like something up to date with cool features so I can experiment with it a little.....Any help would be great! I would probably be buying the camera off the internet, or ebay. (Trying to stay away from a Best Buy since they are soo expensive compared to other stores.

My two reccommendations would be the Canon PowerShot SD890IS and the Canon Powershot SX10IS.

If your looking for a compact camera with great Macro (Close up) abilities then go for the Canon PowerShot SD890IS. You can see it here on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015DPJMK/?tag=amazon-digital-cameras-20

Best features for the Canon SD890IS:

1. Has a 5x Optical zoom which is much longer than the average 3x zoom on most compact cameras.

2. Very fast focus

2. Small enough to fit into your pocket or purse.

If your looking for a great overall camera with great Macro (Close up) and Telephoto abilities then go for the Canon Powershot SX10IS. You can see it here on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001G5ZTZO/?tag=amazon-digital-cameras-20

Best features for the Canon SX10IS:

1. Has a 20x Optical zoom which is one of the longest ultra zooms on the camera market today.

2. Has advanced features like rotating LCD and external flash capabilities which would be great for your product photography.

3. The SX10IS also has one of the best Video modes allowing you to capture those moments where a picture just isn't enough.

Hope that Helps :)

I would also suggest the Canon PowerShot S5 IS

It has great macro capabilities as well as all around versatility. A very nice camera!
