Nikon COOLPIX L820 26402 16 MP 30X Optical Zoom Digital Camera/ how take the best night pics.
Planning a beach vacation and have this new toy to make memories with.
Looking for advice on using this fun toy to create the best pictures possible. I would love some advice on how to take better picture from a bright sunny day to the night time. Some action with the blur.
I normally do very well, but really could use some pointers.
Thanks for your input and advice.
I do also have a water camera, but this Nikon camera is fairly new to me. I haven't had much of a chance to play with it.
I'd like to be a pro with your help, lol

There are limits to photography. Compacts like these tend to hit them sooner than DSLRs.

That said, you should have no problem using the camera during the day outdoors. Indoor shots may need some help from flash, depending on how dark it is. Night shots may be troublesome—flash can still help with portraits, but landscapes and starscapes will be very difficult to shoot, if the camera allows it at all. There is no harm in shooting anyway, but understand if the camera doesn't produce perfect results at night.

Best all-around advice is to learn how to focus. The autofocus and autoexposure system is activated by holding down the shutter button halfway. Once ready, the camera can be quickly triggered; the camera will take additional time to focus and meter exposure if it isn't ready. If you're shooting a portrait, activate autofocus on count 2 of 3, and the camera should be ready by 3.

Learn the various scene modes, especially Sports and Kids & Pets. These allow the camera to prioritize short shutter speed, and adjust the focusing system to better track moving targets.

"I haven't had much of a chance to play with it."

Then get started. All the time spent figuring out controls can eat away at time you could be having fun. Learn how to work the camera *before* you go on vacation. You might even catch some candid shots at home worth keeping.

Actually your GE camera is a clone of the Fuji S2950 - which kind of tells you where Fuji has been headed lately. But astrophotography is a unique thing because most photographers want to include the infrared spectrum. And unfortunately, digital cameras have filters to remove that part of the spectrum. So what astrophotographers usually do is to take the filter out. This is only achievable on a DSLR as the lens is removable so that you can get to the filter (it is attached to the front of the digital sensor). Of course, doing this will void the warranty, and possibly damage the camera, but it is the only way if you want to do this kind of photography Do a search on the astrophotography websites to see what their recommendations as to which is the best camera to remove the sensor, as I am sure some are easier than others.

cool pix cameras are poor at night shooting even with anti shake flash and night settings. I seen camera phones take better night pictures. I love the Nikon cool pics cameras just not for night shooting

Like a "Pro"? Not gonna' happen with an L820. Read the manual and learn what the various scene modes do and when/where to use each one. That's all you got.

Since you are going to the beach, make sure you take a big enough plastic zig bag to store your camera in. Sand + camera = disaster.

How to take great pictures in the day? Set everything to Auto. How to shoot at night? Same as day except turn the flash on.

There are no manual controls on this camera, so the best results you can hope for is to use one of the night "scene" modes.
