I had about 1200 pictures on my Sony camera but just a few days ago before I wanted to transfer it to my laptop I only had 193 pictures left
Anyone know why this is? How I can prevent this kind of thing or how I can get back my deleted pictures back.

First of all, do not save any new file to camer's memory card.

Connect your camera to computer. You should see camera shown as a drive letter (like H:) in Windows Explorer. If not, take out memory card, and connect it to computer using a card reader.

Download recover software asoftech photo recovery (http://www.asoftech.com/apr/). Install and open asoftech photo recovery, select the memory card, and click 'Start' button.

If you had 1200 already on the card the "193 left" is telling you the capacity of the card at 1393.

What you actually should be doing is uploading after every shoot. Once your photos are safely on your hard drive and backed up to say a disc or external drive, format the card in the camera. These devices fail easily - I had one fail just the other day. That's the second so I know what I'm talking about.

If your camera is deleting photos perhaps your card isn't giving an accurate count on what's actually remaining and you should upload and format.

When photos videos and other files are delete from digital camera, they are never truly deleted. This is because that the actual data of those deleted media are still stored on digital camera memory card and not erased away. However, the camera file system will mark the space as free so that when you use digital camera to shoot video or take picture, the space will be used for new files. Same thing happens when you reformatted the sd card of your digital camera, all file table will be emptied and all the space of memory card wil be marked as available.

SO, after digital camera memory card reformat, or you deleted photos videos files from digital camera, make sure that you do not save any new files onto digital camera memory card (including flash card, memory stick, micro sd, sdhc, sd mini card, etc), do not use camera to take more photos as you may risk writing over the space of deleted files that you are trying to recover!

You will also need an appropriate camera recovery software. I recommend 001 File Recovery because they are able to recover more deleted files from digital camera memory cards, not only deleted or corrupted photo video files, but also after digital camera memory card reformat. You can download the camera data recovery software for free from:

If the camera SD Card is not shown as a drive letter when you are plugging the camera directly into the computer, you may need to insert your card into a card reader.

They're in a different folder.

You'll have to check your manual, but they are still there :-)

Once a folder gets to 999, a new folder will be created....it makes it easier for the simple firmware in the camera to keep track.

Once you've found and removed all the pictures, remember to format the card in the camera.

You probably haven't for a while and cards accumulate errors over time and can lock up - and if that happens you can lose pictures.

Don't use your card as storage, format after every download. If pics are missing, try this....Download the program http://www.recuva.com? You must not take anymore pictures on your card. Do you have a card reader either on your computer or an external USB card reader? I have used a card reader and this program. Put the card in the card reader, open the recuva program, the welcome to the recuva wizard will open, click on next. next box, choose 'pictures', click on next, next box choose 'on my media card' click next. See the words 'enable deep scan' click on start. Wait, for it to do it's magic.

You need to use a card reader either one already in your computer (some have one, some don't). Or buy an external USB card reader. They are around 10.00 and can be found at walmart, bestbuy, frys, probably target.

The problem with built in card readers is that they will usually only read up to a 2G card.

I was not able to recover photos by hooking the camera up to the pc with the usb cord, it just won't work.

This is the important part. Choose the pics you want to recover, then choose recover, a box comes up asking where you want to save to. Choose documents/my pictures or wherever you want to save your pictures too. The pictures ONLY save to your pc and not the card.

I'm assuming you are using windows xp or vista, I don't know about mac or win7.

there is not any function on the digital camera which will try this, and no function on the cardboard which will try this. i might guess at consumer errors. in case you're utilising the digital camera to view the pictures countless situations, confirm you study any dialogs that arise in case you press any buttons. If any dialogs arise with an icon of a trash can on them, PANIC!
