Hey all!
I have Adobe photoshop CS2 and own a Nikon D40 which shoots NEF Raw files.
My version of Photoshop doesn't regognise this type of file because i belive its too new a RAW file. Does anyone know if i can convert this type of file into something that my version will accept?

I've downloaded an Adobe DNG conversion tool but, it's next to useless.
It appears on my desktop as an ikon, but everytime i try to open it, all that happens is it just trys to re-install the programme.

Thanks everyone....

the newest verion of camera raw only supports CS4 but I believe the version for CS3 does include it.

CS2 is no longer supported as its too old.

I suggest geting an upgrade to CS4 (it installs easilly to unlike CS3 and will install on casse sensetive file systems such as ZFS, Unix file system and HFS+)

You can download a trial version of CS4 using your existing CS2 serial number (assuming its a genuine one and not pirated in which case it wont accept it) and if you like it buy the upgrade at a heavily discounted price.

Tain't a expert, yet you should evaluate my digicam. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H2. 6 megapixels, 12X optical zoom, takes stunning 8X10s, comes with battery charger, very sturdy on AA rechargeable batteries, has photograph stabilizer and has handbook controls in case you do no longer choose aperture or shutter speeds on vehicle. ought to run approximately $270-

Yes - the solution is simple. Shoot JPEG, not RAW.

RAW files are only useful for advanced photographers who want or need to get into detailed adjustments of exposure and colour balance.

RAW files take up more space on the memory card, more space on the computer hard drive, are slower to work and, as you have discovered, are propriatary formats that are not universally compatible with all software.

Today's SLR cameras are stuffed full of increadible electronics and software designed to get exposure and white balance correct when you make the picture. Learn to use the tools that are in your hands and learn to get the picture right when you push the shutter button. This will make you a better photographer and save you hours of time and frustration playing with RAW files.
