which one is better in case of a digi camera-canon or sony!! budget upto Rs 14000,...?

don't listen to fivetoze. the less MP, the less the noise there is. But the standard megapixels needed are at least 4-5 MP for normal prints. As you said, sony and canon are the best for compact digi cams (not dSLRs). The second for compact digi cams are like olympus nikon samsung fujifilm and pentax. Other thing is, it is important to get VR or IS (image stabalization) but only get the ones with lens or sensor shift not ISO boost. make sure its optical not digital. Hm.. for your budget.. i may say if you are serious in photography and want manual photography i suggest to go for like Canon G7. If you are a person that wants quality pictures just with auto settings go for Sony. Something like the T200 will do. See what you like and see which one fits better in your hands. Hope this helps.

Boy, you like dealing with the close calls in camera quality. I had to look at things closer on the features, options, and price to come up with an answer. I like the prices on Cannon better for what is offered, and I prefer less plastic in my camera. Plastic means easier to break, or weaken and not as durable.The lighter weight, balance and feel of Cannon always impressed me. Another example would be the design of precision tightness of buttons to keep out elements while using them. The camera leaves less space open between the functions of the buttons and it looks like that was the overall design purpose. I don't blanket all camera models, because in the higher end (camera) some features are not necessity. Better means I like what is offered for the money. Cannon to me just seemed to fit better......

and anything with less than 8mp is a waste of time really.
