Question:
What's a good lens to use to shoot wildlife on a Canon EOS 40D?

Ok so I bought a EOS 40D (EF-S 18-55 IS kit) and the zoom on it is just not enough to get clear shots while I'm on a safari. Can any of you guys suggest a good lens I could use in general to get relatively long range shots? I appreciate if you can mention the price ranges as well.
Ps: Photography is just a hobby to me so I don't really need any "high tech" stuff!
Thanks

I highly recommend going with the 100-400mm "L" series.

the 55-250mm lens gives better images than the 70-300 and these are still not the greatest at long range.

the 100-400mm L is about $1600 which I find to be pricey but it's the price you pay for what you need. For an L series lens, this isn't really a lot.

You need at least a 300mm for safari unless the tour guide can drive you very close to the lions.

The canon EF 100-400mm would be good. You can look up the price yourself.

for safari, you will want something like the canon 70-300mm IS

if you want cheaper, the next best thing would be the Canon 55-250mm
