DSLR camera decision help. ?

okay ima going to get my first DSLR camera soon and i was thinking about getting a XSI at first now i wanna get a 40D, but then one of my friend told me to get a 30D instead because there are a lot of features that are not necessary for me at my level. but i was like the 50D is going to come out. should i wait and get it, but we dont know when its going to come out. so yeah.

heres two choices i came up with:
1. get a 30D/40D right now and learn with it
2. get a XTI with kit lens and use it until the 50D comes out then buy the 40D when the price drops.

which route should i go with? if you have a different idea, please share?

how much do you think the price for the 40D be when the 50D come out?

If you're not looking to train for a pro, get the XSi. Hands down.

I've used this camera quite a bit and I've never been so impressed with an entry level SLR. It offers some of the features of a semi pro camera without the cost. Image quality is excellent.

If you're a hobbyist you can get the XSi and spend the rest of your budget on a very nice lens.



If you're looking for a training pro, take the 40D bridge. Same image quality, but more options and a better lens kit.

Forget the 30D. The 40D is quite an upgrade from the 30D.

If you're serious enough, hang on till the 50D comes out. But you'll pay.

The 40D has gone down in price, you can find a kit for anywhere between 1000 to 1200 bucks.



p.s. The XTi will go for about 600-700 bucks. It's not worth it though. The XSi is a better camera and you'll currently be able to find a kit for 700-800 bucks.

The Pentax Kx is around the same price as the Sony, but has a far better sensor and is a cheaper system to buy into by far. The camera is always the cheapest part of any DSLR system, by the time you've added a few lenses and flash you'll have spent more on those. Any DSLR will beat the Fuji on image quality, the Fuji is a bridge camera with a tiny sensor and a fixed lens, they don't even have anyway to sync an external flash. If you want a small camera with all the advantages of a DSLR in image quality and the ability to change lenses etc. look at the Panasonic G2, or if your not interested in movie the G1. Chris

All fine choices. But like that guy said a good lens is what can really make a photo. Also go to the store and check them out or look at similar ones. I personally don't like the way canon are set up. I don't like the button placement. But that is my personal preference. I like the way the Nikons are set up and I like the way the info is displayed.



These little things could help you make your final choices. You need to find the camera that fits you. I love my Olympus with in a day I felt like I had the camera all my life.



As far as quality goes. The Nikon has a better sensor it has the CCD the Canon has a CMOS. I don't think you are going to notice that much of a difference.

The D40x 10 mp Kit for $850 OR you could buy a used one for $480

Anyone of those cameras are good, but it is the lenses that make a difference after a while, so make sure whatever you buy is something that you're going to stick with for a while. Also go to a camera store to handle the cameras to see which one feels better in your hand, what makes the most sense to you.

If u have the means, get the 40D.



Also, IMO, CMOS > CCD in terms of noise at higher ISOs.
