Nope, 3 megapix its more than enough for normal shots. i had one that is about 5 years old and it takes great pictures (Nikon 885).

All depends on what you intend to do with the pictures. You don't need much resolution if you are going to publish photos on the web. If you are going to have them printed, the larger the print, the more pixels you need for a clear photo.
At this point, even inexpensive point-and-shoot digital cameras have at least 6 MPixels, and memory cards keep coming down in price. I would not buy a 3 MPixel camera to save a few bucks considering what you could get for only a little more. The day you get that great picture that you want to blow up and print or use as the wallpaper on your computer, you will wish you had at least 6 MP.

It should be OK. Unless you need really big pictures. My camera is only 100K! But it produces pictures with small file sizes that I can send over the Internet easily and put on my website. If you're thinking of buying one though - check the price. The Fuji Finepix 5600 is 5 mega pixel and has a 10 X optical zoom and is a good bargain - they are replacing it soon with one with more features. You can get the camera for around £120 - with case, rechargeable batteries, charger and 2 gig XD card I saw it at £170.

Three or four years ago, a 3 mp camera would have been considered top of the line. They've come quite a ways since then, but that doesn't mean that a 3 mp camera is bad. It's just not as good as some other models.

unless you are going to do pictures that are like A3 poster size, 3mega pixel camera will suit you fine. even professional portrait photographers only shoot on 3mega pixel because anything higher is generally wasted. The main thing to look out 4 is features like zoom, a digital zoom isnt much good, it simply enlarge the picture like when you zoom into an image on a computer, you really want good optical zoom as this is like the zoom in old film cameras

Absolutely not. My first digital camera had 2 megapixels and the pictures hold up well.

It's not too bad. You will find that it will do the job just fine for ordinary 6x4 inch photos. Don't pay much for it though.
My camera is a 2MP and it does all that I want it to.

my first camera was 3.2 mp and that was fine, it did 6x4 shots very well and I had no quibbles with it, it went wrong in a week.
DO NOT USE THE DIGITAL ZOOM THOUGH
