My canon 550D LCD stopped showing image last week, the shutter don't work, basically now, the camera only focus and i can only see the info through the viewfinder, NOTHING else works.
I had it in the box for a week, and i thought "well, lets try it now" and i just put the Battery in (no lens or SD card) and it worked normally but then i turned it of to put the lens and card and it came back to not work...

Now i want to hard Reset it to try a firmware update, i had Magic Lantern installed for 6 months i doubt it's because of it but, if i have to send it to canon i want the camera to be clean.

Magic Lantern might have caused this. Call Canon's 800 number and ask them.

I had a magic lantern issue that caused this. I figured it out. I removed the batteries. Made sure I had magic lantern on a mem card. Put the magic lantern card in the camera. Put the batteries back in. It booted from magic lantern. I then shut off the camera. Put the latest firmware for the T2i on a formatted SD card. Put that card in and started up the camera and turned it on. I then updated the firmware to 1.09 again to wipe any thing having to do w magic lantern on it. I formatted all cards on my computer before I put it back into my camera. It s working like normal so far.

Do the firmware update instructions call for a hard reset? Not needed on my Nikon. Just do the firmware update. Best of luck to you.
