Question:
Which DSLR for under $800 has the best macro shots?

Although not nearly a professional, I have been debating getting a DSLR for quite some time now. This will be my third camera, and due to the price of DSLRs I want to be as well-researched before I buy it as I can -- I have researched extensively online, and would now like to ask DSLR users what they think. The two most important qualities for me would be image quality, and macro capabilities. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!!!
I have been recently leaning towards the Canon Rebel XSi due to many recommendations, but I do not know how its macro functioning quality is, so any feedback on the XSi would also be very kind!
Thanks!!!!

The camera body is far less important than the lens for macro photography. The body records what the lens sees. You should be asking about lens recommendations not body recommendations.

For Canon Rebel series look at the Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens

macro is more a function of the lens than the camera itself. the kit lens that comes with the camera will only focus down to about 3 ft. you would need to purchase an additional prime lens to really get good macro shots. the image quality of the xsi is perfectly acceptable for most situations. go to bhphotovideo.com and search for macro lenses. there are many to choose from and price can go almost as high as you want but for starters any reasonably priced lens at 50mm or below will probably do just fine. just look at the tech specs of lens and find the minimum focus distance. you want something under 1 ft.

The quality of your macro shots depends on the lens, not the body.

Some dedicated macro lens can cost you nearly $2000, and the most popular ones average out around the $400 mark.

Consider getting the Canon Xs instead, and save towards a macro lens.

Canon Digital Rebel XSi 12.2 MP is a great Digital SLR Camera,

and I also recommend Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM Digital SLR Lens for EOS Digital SLR Cameras
