Olympus E-PL1 Memory Card, Write Protect Error - Can anyone help?

I'm assuming the camera will have to go back to Olympus, slight annoying as only a few weeks old. However the problem is the camera is stating the all memory cards are write protected when they aren't (3 cards - 2, 4 and 8 Gb, all tried on two other cameras where they work fine) - the tabs are not in the lock position, and have worked in the Olympus before.(In fact they still do to review pictures, just not to take any). I have tried pressing the lock button on the camera and nothing happens, and have tried unlocking it through the menu, but no success there either as it won' let me access the menu functions. Has anyone else had this problem, or have any ideas how to solve it without losing the camera back to Olympus for weeks to be repaired?

Hi,

Most Olympus cameras have a write protect function in the software that flags selected pictures as write protected. When that happens the pictures appear in the review mode with a key icon in one corner (it may only appear for a moment when pictures are first displayed). To un-protect ALL the pictures (or video clips) follow the instructions on pg. 66 and 106 of the manual. To un-protect individual selections view the picture in review mode and press the "lock" button (movie button) on the upper right corner of the back of the camera.

If that is not the problem the next thing to do is try a "factory reset" which re-initializes all the settings on the camera to factory defaults. You may have to link to Olympus or call Olympus customer support to do that because i did not find the procedure in the manual.

Sometimes you can get the software to reset by turning off the camera, removing the battery and turning the camera back on WITHOUT the battery installed and leaving it sit for a few hours.

You may also be able to reset it by plugging the camera into your computer and using the software that came with the camera.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

I had this problem and found it was the write protect switch on the SD card that had slid across. I put it back to write and everything was back to normal.

have you ever tried beginning up the lens, then returning it outstanding? If it does not artwork the 1st time, detach the lens returned and sparkling the electric contacts.on the two components (lens and digicam). do no longer touch the glass. i do no longer be attentive to the way it happens yet each and every so often, a possible aligned lens that's somewhat no longer (complicated to ascertain) is the subject.
