After dropping my digital camera yesterday for the millionth time, it finally kicked the bucket. I'm looking to buy a new one and I'm not sure where to start. The camera I had was a sony cybershot, and was 2 years old, and I didn't really like it. What are some of the better digital camera's that are UNDER $400?

Here's an answer I gave with to someone who had a similar question -

Try Fuji, Panasonic, Olympus, Sony in addition to Canon and Nikon. They're all good brands. You should also think about size, weight and ergonomics.

To be more objective go to this comparison site -

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare.asp

All you need to do is plug in what you want, and it gives you a comparison of different models. Don't worry if you don't know what the question means, just skip it and move on to the next question.

Then go to Amazon and do a search for the models you like and read the reviews.

I prefer Canon cameras, there are several very nice cameras under $400. Actually, the price of the digital Rebel XT is almost down to $400, I own that and I like it but, there are some point and shoots that have more features and are easier to use for less than the Rebel XT.

Hey i currently own a digital camera SAMSUNG NV3. and it is the BEST camera i have ever had. this would be my 4th camera! i owned a 3 canons and a cybershot, but compared to everything else i FELL IN LOVE with this one. It has soooo many features you will never get tired. It has an MP3 PLAYER! with EARPHONES! you can also view music videos and read FILES on your camera. This is a reallie high tech camera. You should check out the rest of the features. its pretty cool. My aunt got it for me on my birthday, and it cost her about 350 buying it online. This camera is mostly sold in asia, but you can request it anywhere. Its a very unique camera, and none of my friends have it ! I get compliments all the time. it's totally worth it! =D

The Cannon Power Shot SD100 in my opinion is a fantastic camera. It's 7.1 Mega Pixels and the pictures come out crystal clear. It's really easy to use and come with two easy to navigate handbooks.

I am sure most people are going to say Olympus, however I have had nothing but problems with these cameras! Even Photography Magazine stated that Cannon is one of the best brand of cameras.

Hope this helps!

I personally have a Fujifilm FinePix E900. And it is wonderful inside and outside pictures. I am planning on majoring in Photography in college and have a lot of experience with cameras and photograph and this is the best camera I have used. Here is a link to the site of the camera, this is my first time answering someone's question so I'm not sure where to put the link so I might have put it twice. : )

I say Canon is pretty good. I would recommend Canon Powershot SD870 because of its 28mm wide angle lens. If you want there's Panasonic DMZ-TZ5 which has 10x zoom and a wide angle lens.

I'm a photographer in my spare time, I'd say FujiFilm, they are my favourite and normally win in the gadget magazine/programs tests. :)
