I just bought a Minolta XG-m slr camera off eBay and I'm worried. I can't pull the lever to advance the film all the way and the viewfinder is blurry. The batteries are dead and I was wondering if that might have something to do with it. Haven't had time to get new ones but I can't stand to wait to find out

Blurry viewfinder - has the previous owner put an optical correction lens on the viewfinder to enable use without his/her spectacles?

Blurry viewfinder - sorry to maybe insult your intelligence but on a SLR you focus by looking through the viewfinder and adjusting the lens - have you done that? and It does have a lens doesn't it?

film advance - when the lever is thrown it advances the film and c0cks the shutter. It will then not advance the film again until the shutter is fired. Try again after firing the shutter.

Your Minolta XG-M is a battery-dependent camera so if the batteries are dead the shutter won't release except, if memory serves, in the "X" or flash-sync mode. Just buy 2 LR44 batteries and your camera should be fine.

However, if the shutter won't release in the "X" mode or with new batteries there may be a problem with one of the capacitors inside the camera. If that's the case you'll have to have it repaired or send it back to the seller - IF the seller has a return policy. I use and recommend Garry's Camera for servicing your camera - http://www.garryscamera.com $45.00 + $8.00 shipping and handling and your camera will be good to go after a full CLA (Clean-Lubricate-Adjust).

As far as a blurry viewfinder is concerned you need to remember that the XG-M is a manual focus camera.

You can download the Manual for your camera here:
