Does a higher MP camera mean more space used on an SD card?

I am preparing to upgrade my current 4.1 MP Sony Cybershot to a newer camera, ranging between 10 and 14 MP. Currently, my Sony Memory Stick is a 512MB, and each photo I take is roughly 1MB in size. Since the megapixels will be larger on my new camera, does that mean that each shot I take with them will require more space on my SD card? I'm willing to upgrade to a 32GB SD card, but if I can get away with an 8 or 16, that would be good, too. I've never come close to filling up my 512MB, and I've taken 230 shots at once before uploading them.

Usually yes. More MP means bigger pictures, bigger pictures mean bigger file sizes.
