Get a most expensive full frame Nikon or Canon you can afford. But remember...

A camera is but a paint brush, it is more important who is holding the brush than which brush it is. All decent cameras can take wonderful pictures in the right hands. Spend your time studying great lighting and composition because even a great camera can not fix bad lighting or composition. And have fun with whichever brush you buy or use.

Things that effect picture quality

- listed from Least to Most important

Camera body = 10%

Lens = 20%

Photographer = 70%

Well there's no contrast between Nikon and Canon. Both of them are best at their place. The DSLR I would suggest you is Canon EOS 60D. It costs around ₹50K with 18-55 mm lens. Its not too expensive and I hope would be easy to use as compared to higher range digital-SLRs.

The camera has got 1/8000 shutter speed and ISO upto 6400, which is quite impressive for this range. It has also got a digital screen at the top which makes it jolly good.

You can't go wrong with any of them, and they all have automatic modes meaning that you can learn about photography at your own pace and gradually take more control.

If price isn't any problem then look at the Nikon D750, a camera that will offer you all the photo enthusiast potential you could ask for. The tilting LCD panel makes shots from waist level, on the ground, or overhead easier to take. (Eye level shots are often boring). Canon 5DMk3 is similar but is without the tilting LCD. These are 'semi-pro' cameras with superior image quality potential.

If you want a less well specified camera then look at Canon 700D (T5), Nikon D5300, Pentax D50. Canon 70D and Nikon D7100 are better in many ways including viewfinder.

And don't overlook the well-designed little Olympus OMD EM1 with the smaller 4:3 sensor. (Not if you want to shoot billboard sized photos)

There are so many. And it's hard to go wrong with any choice. But, if you want a couple of suggestions, look at the new Nikon D5500. If you want to wait until April, a new Canon T6i/T6s is coming out.

It's interesting that you didn't mention the oldest SLR manufacturer in Japan - Pentax.

Like Nikon, they're built around Sony sensors, but all current models have pentaprism viewfinders and the ability not only to take (sorry Canon, Sony), but meter with (sorry Nikon) the manufacturer's manual focus lenses. All models but the basic K-500 have weather-sealing.

While Sony have the edge in video, the only way is to set a budget, handle the models within it, and choose the one that feels best in your hands.

My OPINION is that Pentax is the best - borne out by 30 years shooting with them, but yours may be different, and nobody can form it but you.
