Question:
Camera won't detect SD card?

I'm using a Sony Cybershot camera and lately, my camera has been automatically going to internal memory. It is not detecting my SD card at all even though I can view photos when I insert my SD card into my laptop. My SD card has no write-protect switch and the memory is not full either. I can't find any setting that will allow me to make my camera use SD card instead of internal memory. Hope somebody can help! Thanks!

Make sure the card is not in backwards.

To tell it its the card or the camera do the following.

Test the card using a computer card reader by opening the SD card and saving any existing photos in it to a folder.

Next save photos from the computer folder to the SD then open the saved test photos.

Most digital cameras prefer to format the SD card for best performance.

Make sure that your camera will work with the kind of card you are trying to use it with. I cant see if you mentioned that this is a new memory card or if its an old one that its not recognizing anymore, but frequently it happens that people try to use a card that the camera cannot use because of the format.

SD cards come in multiple capacities They are all the same size, However the formats are different, There is 3 primarily used, SD, SDHC, and SDXC, if your camera can only use SD (typically sizes up to 2GB) cards, then a SDHC (typically 4GB to 32 GB) or a SDXC Typically 32 GB to 2TB) card will not be able to be read on the camera.

Try checking if its the card type by trying a different card in the camera. If not that, then the trigger inside the memory stick slot that gets pushed when a card is inserted might be broken.

If you have an older laptop, the SD slot might not be able to recognize SDHC (4GB to 32GB storage) memory cards. You only hope would be to use the cable that should have came with your camera, or as another user mentioned, get an external card reader (that of course can read/recognize SDHC cards). If you are not using a SDHC card, do you have any problems viewing any other SD card in that reader? If so, maybe the drivers for the reader are not properly installed.

It is probably corrupted. Transfer all of your photos to your laptop, and then format the card while it is in your camera. Frequently formatting your card keeps it health. If that doesn't work, buy a new card.

Try to format the SD card. Don't forget to transfer the data to your computer first.

Try another memory card. Make sure you are using the right kind of card. Most Cybershots use memory sticks.
