Hi Caleb Braswell!

Get a new pentax k-x. I recommend Pentax K-x 12.4MP Digital SLR

with 2.7 inch LCD and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL Lens.

Capture widescreen HD 720p video at 24fps; 2.7-inch LCD with autofocus and Face Detection Live View

4.7fps capture rate with 1/6000 sec max shutter speed; 11-point wide-angle autofocus

Actually you won't have to buy a flash for the D60, not if you can use the built in flash - or is that broken? At that price this must be a very old camera and from the sound of it well used.

I wouldn't even consider used. Too many unanswered questions. But then I wouldn't buy a Pentax either, not enough quality.

As I see it your only real choice is a Canon Rebel - perhaps the 1000D or the 550D or something in between.

What is the shutter count on D60 ?

If the shutter count is low on D60 then that's a good deal even if the flash is not working. That will leave you with good amount of money to invest in good lenses. However make sure that the rest of the camera is fine and the shutter actuations are low.

The K-x of course. You won't regret it.
