Question:
Anyone else have problems with Nikon CoolPix P520 Stop Responding?

Last night I was shooting photos with my Nikon Coolpix P520 and all of a sudden it stopped letting me take pictures. Regardless of how many times I tried to take one it just would not let me. So I tried other buttons such as the menu and nothing. So I tried to power the camera down and got an error saying I can't use that function when the camera is recording. But I was never recording a video. So I wound up taking out the battery and putting it back in. The battery was fully charged on the camera. Tried to turn it back on and nothing. I spent 5 minutes trying to get it to come back on and finally it did. Tried the preview image button and nothing once again. It is like none of the buttons are responding at all. Then I had hell once again trying to get it to power down. Tried connecting it to my pc and my pc read the camera but said nothing was in the files. None of my images or anything. Took out memory card and the images were there. I have maybe had the camera for a week now. And up to this point it has been working great for me. The auto focus can be a tad annoying. I had noticed sometimes it took me a few tries hitting the power button to get it to come on. I just figured maybe I was holding it too long or what not. I am just curious if anyone is having similar issues. I still can return mine to the store but this is making me question wether I tried try a new one or just reget the camera I had and hope this doesn't happen again.

Sometimes when taking low-light photos, especially with cameras that are completely automatic, they apply a noise-reduction process which takes some time to complete. Depending on how dark the photo was and other factors, this can take awhile to process. Not saying this is what happened, but when the noise reduction is active, you have to let the camera just finish before continuing.

You can also turn off the noise reduction. So check the camera and see if there is such a setting, and if it is on, turn it off and see if it makes a difference.

Otherwise, return the camera.

The P520 has a huge firmware problem, I'm on my second camera and I'm taking it back. This camera will not shut down properly which causes two issues: 1. The camera will not power up again without pulling the battery. 2. The camera will drain the battery because it has not turned off. Just do a search or check out the reviews on Costco and you will see that this is a common problem. Nikon will not admit there is a problem with this camera and there are no firmware updates available. This is absolutely unacceptable behavior by Nikon. I will never but another Nikon produce. Then there's Nikon customer service that actually hung up on me when I indicated that I would like to escalate this problem to a higher level because it is a critical issue. Disgusting behavior.

I have had the camera freeze and could not get any response (even to turn on or off.) I have learned to remove the battery and put it back in the battery compartment. Then it works.

For the first time--my Nikon Coolpix P520 stopped letting me take a picture. I was able to use all of the other functions (focus, flash, adjust the exposure, aperture, shutter speed, and ISO.) While I was writing this response, I attempted to look at the user menu, and it would NOT respond. But the camera did snap two pictures. However, I could not adjust anything. I took out the battery and returned it to its case with the SD card. Then the camera returned to the original state--all adjustments possible. It just would not take a picture.

I have no used my camera in months, its will make a year I have had it next week, I have never had these types of problems with my fuji but my nikon is a pos. I have my childrens memories from sporting events that I need to be capturing but this pos nikon will not stay on or when it does it freezes up. I have replaced the battery and pretty much tried everything with no luck. I cannot just go out and buy a new camera

My Nikon Coolpix P520 will not power on. There is a green light (ring) on the On/Off button. When the AC charger is connected, nothing happens. Just a green ring on the power button. I have taken out the batter, but to no avail. Is there a fix for this?

I am just now having these problems... The battery is fully charged and I will be happily taking photos and then all of a sudden it stops working. I can't turn the darn thing on. Then, a few hours later it starts miraculously to start working again. Today I got a new problem, it turned on, well kind of . The light goes on but I can't get anything to happen Had to take battery out to get it to turn off. Again hours later it is working again. NOT HAPPY. I am on holidays overseas and missing so many photos. Thank god for iPhone

My CoolPix will run through the entire menu and will not stop to allow me to take a photo. Sometimes the lense will zoom out by itself and it will not allow me to stop it. I have to take the battery out to get it to stop.

Yeah, there seems to be a problem with the button module not connecting.

Mine won't turn on at all now.

Not happy!

You can download ccleaner for free here: http://bit.ly/1Bk5V5C

First open CCleaner

Go to the Cleaner tab and you will be confronted by a very confusing lineup of checkboxes.

To make this brief, below is my recommended setup:

Under internet explorer check temporary internet files, cookies, and last download location. Most users don't really need this stuff. keep history and bookmarks unchecked, history is a maybe, but you don't want to lose bookmarked sites. You can normally leave Windows Explorer, System, and Advanced alone.

Run CCleaner and it will start deleting files.

afterward it will present you with a list of the files deleted, you really don't need to go through it as it will be several pages long.

The registry cleaner is recommended for slightly more advanced users. Use it after uninstalling programs as they will often leave behind incorrect registry entries.

If you decide to run Registry cleaner then review the items detected and always back up the registry (I keep a folder aside for this)

The Tools tab lets you uninstall programs and set startup programs. Why do you need this if Windows has all of these features? Especially with Vista Home Ed. The windows defender software explorer( startup programs) doesn't pick up some entries (however software explorer is easier to use).

Using CCleaner to uninstall programs and then check for leftover registry entries takes less time.

Under Options you can determine how CCleaner cleans your files. I leave this alone.
