How long should my first battery charge be?

Just got a Sony t-700 digital camera, how long should I charge the battery when I charge it for the first time? I read the manual and it said it normally takes 220 minutes for a full charge, but thats on average, not the first time. I've heard 12-16 hours and I've also heard 24 hours. I don't want to over-do it but I also dont want to take it off the charger too soon. Thanks

A simple way detect whether your battery is charged fully or not:

charge for 12 hs first: you will find the battery very hot because the charging process produce lots of heal

If the manual says it takes approx. 220 minutes to charge, then that's all the charging it needs. That's almost 4 hours you know? The charging indicator light will let you know when the battery is fully charged, and that should take up to 220 minutes or quite possibly less time.

There is no need to charge it for 12-16 hours, none whatsoever. Just do what the manual says...
