Question:
I'm starting a video podcast. I used a Nikon D3300, but it only shot for 20 minutes. I need something to shoot for at least an hour. Help!?

I'd like to purchase something like a go pro, but I heard their battery length isn't too good. I also want a relatively cheap option, as I don't have too much money left in my budget, and I don't need the video for audio pick up since I have nice XLR microphones. Is the Logitech webcam route a good idea or not? So many options, so little knowledge.

You seem surprised.

Recording movies (short version) starts on page 37. Page 38 directs us to page 155.

Page 156 says there is a 4 gig limitation for a single file.

Page 157 says the camera can overheat and automatically shut dow untill cool enough to use again.

Page 158 says there are maximum length limits.

If video is your primary concern, then using a device designed for video capture is a better idea than using a device designed for still image capture that happens to capture video and audio as a "convenience feature".

We don't know what your podcast subjects are. An action cam (like a GoPro) is not a good "normal camcorder" replacement. And a webcam probably won't provide the video quality that you're looking for.

Something like a Canon HF R700 is a much better idea. Another option is to keep using the still image capture device for video... Just take a breath between sequences and press record again - assuming the camera does not overheat/shutdown first. Tie the sequences together with an editor.

Yeah, a Nikon DSLR is just about the worst thing you could have chosen. Because you need to record for longer times than digital cameras are designed to do, you have to get a camcorder which can be used to record for hours. You can't do this with a digital camera such as mirrorless or DSLR because they will overheat, plus most will stop recording once the file size reaches 4GB.

You need a real digital camcorder, not some digital camera that was never meant to do video.

Webcams are terrible for high quality video since they capture in very low resolutions so that transmission through the internet is faster.

A GoPro is a horrible choice for a vlog.

The new Logitech C930 is said to be pretty good.
