Ah, I love Friday nights, when the volume of answers goes up, and the quality of answers goes way down!

Your arbitrary requirement that the camera must be black takes a lot of good quality cameras out of your hands, and puts a lot of fashion oriented cameras in their place. Not a wise move, in my opinion.

I've disregarded this requirement, and would recommend to you the Canon A720. For less than $200, it'll give you an 8 megapixel sensor, a 2.5" display, and excellent picture quality from a camera in this class. You can't have everything.

With this, you'll still have enough money left over for a set of AA NiMH rechargable batteries and a 15-minute charger, a 2 GB memory card, and a camera bag.

What's not to love?

MP stands for megapixels, or tens of millions of pixels. you do no longer elect too many, by using fact on a compact digital camera, the sensor is a lot smaller than on DSLRs. by using this the photodiodes- nicely, in short, you have so lots greater noise (the grotesque, colored speckles around the image) at medium ISOs and severe ISOs. objective for the 8-10 megapixel selection. Canon, Nikon, Panasonic/Lumix and Sony lead the compact cameras. i could stay away from Olympus compacts, as they use proprietary taking part in cards, that fee so lots greater desirable than extensive-unfold SD taking part in cards.

As a first time buyer, I am going to assume you want something user friendly and that you dont have to spend a lot of time reading the manual. Kodak EasyShare is known as one of the most user friendly cameras. You did not mention anything about zoom, now with the price range you mentioned you are only going to find a point and shoot digital camera, so zoom is very important. You want to make sure it has quite a bit of OPTICAL zoom, digital zoom is not that important. Optical zoom is like zooming with an slr camera, digital zoom is like zooming in on a picture on your computer. The Z1285 meets every requirement you desire plus it has 5x optical zoom and it surpasses your MP desire. Now if you are willing to pay about $30 more there is the Z712 IS it is a 7.1MP and has 12x optical zoom. Here are links to both for you to look at.

I just bought a Panasonic DMC-LZ7 for $130.00 with 6x optical zoom, a 2.5" screen, 7.2 MP, and it comes in black (though I prefer silver). I LOVE IT and it was the best price I found. It got good reviews. I've already had two other Panasonic Lumix cameras and they've been really reliable (I just needed one that takes AA batteries for traveling to remote locations where there is no charger.)

P.S. - I bought it on amazon.com because they had a really competitve price, but I went to Best Buy to test it first. I also tested a few Canons and the time between shots was so slow that I wouldn't buy one even if they do have better screen resolution.

Several friends and family members of mine have a Kodak EasyShare. They are simple to use and produce good pictures. If I hadn't been given a camera as a gift, that is what I would probably go with. And Canons are always good.

Buy a Panasonic for about $75 and upgrade the memory (SD) card for about $25. Then you will have a nice little camera to learn from. You'll have to get used to photo software & everything, so you want a "starter" setup to begin. Don't spend too much money!

Good luck with your new hobby :-)

Take a look at the line of Cannon Digital camerals at walmart. They have a nice one with 8.4 Megapixels for under $200.00.

canon makes the best cameras out there, for very good prices. easy to use, awesome picture quality, etc.

i would recommend checking their website for ideas, and then browsing all of the big stores for comparison prices. you could also research certain models on cnet.com ... they're a reputable site.

Well, you are asking for alot there, so there wouldn't be much choice. Maybe buy a phone. The more exspensive, the better quality, screen, mp. The colour doesn't really matter.
