This is a DSLR, that stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex

anything digital uses a memory card of some sort.

the D3000 is a great beginners camera. I do however, seeing as you did not know weather it took film or memory cards to take a class on DSLR photography. You should not use these cameras for simple Point and Shoot. These will take way better pictures and with a few classes or if you read a book and understand everything, you can do some really nice experimental photography.

The camera you are looking at is a DSLR and not an SLR. Both have a mirror in the front of them but the DSLR is the one that takes a memory card. The up front cost is higher on those but the ability to see the pictures instantly and delete the ones you don't want is worth the difference in price. This type of camera can be hooked directly to your computer which is probably what you are looking for. The film type cameras require the film in the camera to be processed which you can do at home with chemicals or send the film off. Most of the people who are newer to photography prefer digital cameras because they can see the pictures immediately and can share them with their friends online. Do a little research to find one with the features you need and weather or not you actually want a camera with all those functions. Happy hunting and more importantly - happy shooting.

DSLR are fully digital bodies, hence, only use memory card. However, some may have internal memory to supplement memory cards. I don't know of any models that include internal memory, but then again, I don't know EVERY model available ;)

The D in dSLR stands for digital, therefore, it uses memory cards.

As far as I can tell, this would be another dSLR going to the wrong hands.

If it has mega pixels then it's digital.
