Not sure what to get.

The Nikon D800 wins in the megapixel count but what does the 5D mk3 have that the Nikon doesn't ?

Or is it better to save money and get a good used 5D mk2 ?

I have a slight Canon bias but I'm willing to disregard that if the D800 has the edge, especially in very large prints ??

I thought about medium format digital but I can't justify £7,000 ($10,000)

I want it mainly for shooting landscape, large interiors, architectural and travel.

For what you shoot a 5D mk II should be more than enough. It has slower and less accurate AF than either the mk III and D800 but unless you shoot lots of fast moving subjects it should be more than good enough. Use the rest of the money to buy a good lens for shooting landscape and architecture. The Canon TS-e 17mm L is an excellent lens for that.

Any DSLR with the right glass will do what you want.

Find a dealer and take a look at entry-level models from all five manufacturers and pick the one you like best.

If you MUST go full-frame (not always necessary) a Sony will leave you more money for lenses.
