Compared to Nikon or Cannon superzoom cameras, where does Fuji (S9600 in particular) stand?

Among the three brands, I agree that in superzooms, Nikon is at the bottom, but Fuji is certainly on top, with such excellent models like S9600 (S9100), S6500fd, S100fs, and S200EXR. All of them (including older models like S9500 (S9000) have manual zoom control ring, just like DSLRs, while offerings from Canon (and other manufacturers) only have electronic zoom control. This is the main advantage of Fuji superzooms. They take really beautiful pictures. And the low-light sensitivity of its super-CCD sensor makes those cameras kings of the "dark". Mind you, Canon G series cameras are very good, but they are not superzooms, while the PowerShot series don't have manual zoom either. So for me, Fuji is top of the three in superzooms.

I own the Fuji 9000, one step prior to the 9600. The cameras are very similar except for face detection witch my 9000 doesn't have.
I also own a Canon Rebel XS (1000D) - an excellent camera. My Fuji produces excellent photos at
9mp considering it's a high end point and shoot. It does video but not at the HD level and neither does the 9600.
The 9000 and 9600 do everything an slr does except for manual focus. Fuji claims manual focus but not really because both have electronic view finders as compared to actual view so manual focus is extremely difficult at best and impossible at worst. However the 9000 and 9600 do an excellent job with auto focus.
If you compare any of the point and shoot super zooms I think they're all pretty even in quality of build and photos - the 9000 and 9600 have both.
There are, as you probably know, filter grooves at the front of the 9600 lens and I keep a UV filter on my 9000 to protect the front lens element. I've read about lens attachments for the front of my lens but never used one. You may be able to find one on ebay - have you looked there? It will be a screw on lens rather than a snap or bayonet mount.

Considering ease of use, surprisingly at the middle with Canon on top.
Nikon makes great dSLRs, no doubt about it. Their enthusiasm in producing quality cameras seemingly dwindles as they go downwards to their simpler models.
