While travelling, I'd like to back up my photos without paying to have CDs burned, or waiting hours to upload over slow connections, or carrying a stack of SD cards.

The Epson P-2000 does everything I want and more, but at $600 it's way too expensive. Since I already have a spare external hard disk, I'd like to find some kind of teeny processor that's just smart enough to execute a copy command between the camera and my hard disk.

When I travelled overseas last year I took a 30 GB portable HDD device called a Digidock . For exactly the same reason.

It worked perfectly (its a Toshiba HDD)...and it allowed us to take tons of photos. You just transfer the files from your card by inserting the card in the unit.

I hear you - I'm looking for something like that myself. It just doest'n exist.

Perhaps you could use other people's PCs along the way - or even internet cafes - and simply plug your camera/ memory card + hard drive into that to transfer files.
