In this price range, I like the Konica Minolta Dimage X1 which features 8MP resolution and a 3x optical zoom in a slim body. It can be had for as little as $230 from various online stores but prices vary. Buying something under your budget is never a bad thing and with the $70 you save, you can get either a 512MB or 1GB memory card. It supports SD memory cards up to 2GB.

I just got a Canon SD400 camera a month ago and have been really impressed. It's compact, light, but loaded with features. Actually, it runs for a little under your price range, but worth a look. 5MPx, plus video capture capabilities... Highly recommended...
