I suggest you get a nice point and shoot camera. I have a list of the best ones out now:

http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&ref_=lp_281052_nr_n_0&bbn=281052&qid=1316690337&rnid=281052&rh=n%3A172282%2Cn%3A!493964%2Cn%3A502394%2Cn%3A281052%2Cn%3A330405011&_encoding=UTF8&tag=faumioew-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

Out of these i highly recommend Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS 12.1 MP Digital Camera:

http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-ELPH-300-HS/dp/B004J41T7Q/ref=sr_1_4?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1334781668&sr=1-4&tag=faumioe-20

Its features are:

- World's thinnest digital camera with a 24mm ultra Wide-Angle lens and 5x Optical Zoom and Optical Image Stabilizer.

- Canon's HS SYSTEM with a 12.1 MP CMOS and DIGIC 4 Image Processor improves shooting in low-light situations without the need for a flash

- Full 1080p HD Video for exceptional quality with stereo sound, plus a dedicated movie button for easy access.

- Get high-speed shooting in a point-and-shoot camera: High-speed Burst Mode captures 8.0fps - Smart AUTO intelligently selects the proper settings for the camera based on 32 predefined shooting situations.

- Super Slow Motion Movie records video at high speeds to allow slow motion playback.

- Zoom optically while shooting video and keep footage stabilized with Dynamic IS.

- And lowers noise levels at higher ISO settings.

When I was looking to upgrade my compact zoom, Canon SX130IS caught my eye for both its price point and its feature set. For a sub-$200 compact zoom, this camera definitely leads the pack.

* 12 megapixel image capture

* Very good image quality

* Full 720P HD video capture

* Excellent low light performance for its class

* Excellent image stabilization capability

* Full manual control, including Av, Tv and full manual modes

* Great zoom range, especially at the wide end

* Excellent, fast and intuitive performance

* Reasonable battery performance with rechargeable (a MUST!)

* Works with convenient AA batteries

* Excellent flash for its class

* Excellent colour fidelity with no detectable image artifacts

* Fast continuous shooting for a compact camera

* Perfect size for a compact zoom, fits in a large pocket

* Fantastic price/performance ratio

if you want a photo for taking photos outside but average quality and features then Canon A490 is great. It's about 120 dollars.

These are some of my own photos taken with this camera:

Canon Powershot ELPH 300 is going for around $150 everywhere. Sears had it for $108 in my area.

All the best to you. I would personally spend a little more and get a Canon S95 but it all depends on how much you want to get into photography.
