They will yield the same quality of print up to a certain print size.

3 MP photographs are roughly 1400x2100 pixels

6 MP photographs are roughly 2000x3000 pixels

To get the maximum printable size from a given resolution photo (before the quality starts degrading), divide the pixel dimensions by 240 (some would suggest 300).

So, for the 3 MP, you can print up to 5x7 with no loss in quality. This also means that for print sizes at or below 5x7, the difference in quality will be really hard to discern between 3 MP and 6 MP.

A 3 mp photo and a 6 mp photo doesn't have significant different when it's in the normal photo format.

MP is the number of pixels used in the picture that shows the smount of detail. This means that unless you plan to blow the picture up into a size larger than A4 there's really no need to purchase a camera above 3.2 MP, especially if you use the camera for casual, amateur or leisurely purposes.

For example, if you blow a 3 MP picture to an A3 size, you'll be able to see the jagged, blurry areas. The pixels merely grow larger instead of provide sharper detail.

So unless you plan to constantly print or keep large photos in your PC, or require a high level of detail and quality to be retained no matter how much you're going to blow a picture up, there isn't much difference between a 3 MP or a 6MP when it comes to normal photo quality and size.
