What are good quality flatbed film scanners that work with 35mm film and also has a medium format scanner?
I have a Diana F+ with a 35mm backing on it. The little booklet said that for 33 X 48mm (square image with exposed perforations) I'd need a film scanner to be able to get the full quality picture and see the sprockets.

What is your budget? Any Epson scanner would serve you well. Most good-quality scanners come with plastic grids in which to stick your negatives in for easier scanning. You'll also want some lint-free photo gloves and a compressed-air can to spray dust of your negs and the scanner.

I second the V500. But a word of caution...

The software on the V500 will expect to see 24x36 frames, and the negative carrier will cover the sprocket holes on the film, so you won't be able to scan automatically. However, the scanner is recognizable by other software (for example, I use a mac and Image Capture), so you can lay the film straight on the glass and still activate the backlight.

You can also slip the negatives into the 120 carrier and scan that way if the strips are long enough.

Ask the lab not to cut your negatives into strips and you'll have an easier time handling them.

Finally, no matter what kind of negatives you use, the negative carrier is miserable on the V500. It takes much longer to put negatives in it than to actually scan them.

I use an Epson V500 and it has 35mm and medium format (up to 60x120mm) negative carriers.

ADDT'L: When I do 35mm negatives to show the sprocket holes, I put it in the medium format carrier and then use black construction paper to fill in the extra space.

@James... it took a couple of tries the first time I used the V500 negative carriers, but after that (once I realized what I was doing wrong), they work great.

I use and recommend the HP Scanjet G4050. I haven't actually tried scanning negatives yet but I know the negative carrier will cover the sprocket holes so you'll have to just lay the negatives on the glass.

I bought mine from the HP Store for $177.95 with free shipping. They did charge sales tax though.

Sorry however you can not anticipate to pay a price like that and count on excellent high-quality. The range of fine pleasant scanners begins with the Epson V500 and they are priced at £180-£200. Don't buy something less, you purchase low priced, you purchase twice. .

Some of the Canons like the Canon CanoScan 9000F can do this. The lighter Canons like the Canon CanoScan LiDE210 cannot scan slides or negatives.
