Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3, TZ5, or TZ6

It's on the large-size of pocket cameras, but it is still pocket-able. It has a 10-12X optical zoom, which is amazing for its size. Around 7-8 megapixels, I forget the exact size. It can take very high resolution 30fps video. SDHC memory, so you can put very large memory cards in it. It uses a Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery that has a long life. Replacements with even larger capacities can be found on eBay for under $10.

I've owned both the TZ3 and TZ5, loved both of them.

I think that Canon Powershot with 4 times optical zoom lens is great.

The price is reasonable and the image quality is quite good. I recommend this series. The prices of the Powershot with 4 times optical zoom lens are different but most of them are under $250.
