If you know exactly what you need and how much it costs, what accessories you want to buy and which ones you don't need - it won't make any difference whether you buy from either of these stores.
If you don't know what you need and require some consultation from the sales staff - don't buy from either, as the sales personnel in both of these chains is clueless about what they sell. Especially this is true for advanced cameras like D80.
But as far as the camera itself, it's exactly the same whether you go to Wally or BB. If you buy at Costco, you may get a slightly different package. I don't know about this specific camera, but Costco is known to make deals with manufacturers, when they package the products differently for their warehouses (sometimes they even label them "for costco"). But usually they throw in a couple of extras you won't get in regular place, so it actually may be a good thing!
Do make sure you're not getting a camera that somebody returned and they just threw it back on a shelf. But then again, inspect the box well in both Wal-Mart and Best Buy, as this situation could happen in either store.

The reason they tell you that is because Walmart is an ethically bankrupt company. It's more a "don't support them" than, "The other store has this special feature put on their camera"
It's the same camera. The difference might be in prices and maybe the lens combo offered.
I would shop around, go to the local camera shops, find out about the camera and once all that is done, look at the list of prices and go from there.

Neither place has a clerk that can advise U about the features or settings of ANY camera. Go to a camera shop! The camera shop can analyze your needs, help you choose, give you lessons!
Also, I have not bought from Best Buy in a couple of years, even though there is one 1/2 mile from my house. Best Buy charged me 15% return fee on a Tom Tom that turned out to be unsatisfactory. The T. T. said, for instance, that I was "home" when I was two hundred yards from home. Also, the T.T. did not say what side of the street that me destination was on.

I've never heard that. It's true Walmart sales people may not be the most knowledgable, but I always thought Walmart had the best prices and return policy. What do they say about Walmart?

No, I'm sure they will match each others price.
